Christmas in September?

The wife and I took a trip to the mall this afternoon. While traipsing about Macy's we happened upon the scene below.

I realize that it's a frigid 96 degrees outside, but isn't it a little early for Christmas?

When I was a kid, not that long ago, we didn't even begin to think about Christmas until December. A 3 week build-up was more than enough and the "big day" seemed all the more special for it. These days we've had our fill of festivities long before the day arrives and it can't possibly live up to the expectation. It's the children I feel most sorry for.

@Anon- Thanks for dropping by. We tended to get ready for Christmas after Thanksgiving, but never earlier. It seems to me like we had a better appreciation for how unique the time of year was. I don't think that's change for me, but there is something hollow about seeing Christmas displays this early.
