South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford disappeared the past several days. According to his staff he was 'hiking the Appalachian Trail.'

The funny thing, no one really cared - chalking it up to Sanford just being a weird guy.
Given the Governor's penchant for odd behavior, it's only too bad that he bothered to come back.
Update: Well, turns out it was, indeed, all too bad that Gov. Sanford bothered coming back.
Not only was the covert time away from the office odd, but it was also immoral as Gov. Sanford admitted to having an affair earlier this afternoon. Video of the press conference is below.
Suffice it to say, Gov. Sanford's political career is effectively over.

what a strange, strange saga.
i do think he gave a refreshingly honest and heartfelt press conference this afternoon. that took guts.
I had the same reaction. I'm not sure if you had time to read the email exchange between the two of them, but it seemed like he was genuinely conflicted about the whole ordeal.
I'm no Sanford fan, but I think the lesson may be that life happens fast...
